A step-by-step guide to activating Offroad Mode on VanMoof S1, X1, S2, X2, S3 and X3 — with the important firmware caveats and legal warnings you need to hear first.
As confirmed by VanMoof (02.05.24), modifying the region settings using a third-party app could void your warranty. Operating an e-bike at speeds exceeding 25 km/h on public streets in Europe is illegal and can result in fines or other legal consequences.
This speed limit is in place to ensure the safety of both the rider and those sharing the road. We strongly advise against attempting to use Offroad Mode or any other modifications that may enable your VanMoof to exceed this speed limit on public roads. Ride responsibly and within the limits set by the law.
If you own a VanMoof S1, X1, S2, or X2, you can activate Offroad Mode on all firmware versions. These bikes offer flexible speed settings through the Moofment app.

Make sure the VanMoof app is completely closed to prevent connection conflicts. Two apps cannot hold the Bluetooth link at the same time.
Open Moofment and connect directly to your bike via Bluetooth. The app will auto-detect your VanMoof.
Navigate to bike settings and enable Offroad Mode. You can customize speed limits, motor power, and other advanced settings.
Compatible firmware: all firmware versions for Series 1 and 2 bikes support Offroad Mode activation through Moofment.
Offroad Mode on VanMoof S3 and X3 is only possible if your bike's firmware version is v1.7.6 or lower. Check your firmware version in the official VanMoof app under bike settings.

Firmware already updated? If your S3 or X3 has firmware higher than v1.7.6, Offroad Mode is no longer available through software. In this case, only US Mode is possible through region settings. See the firmware downgrade service below for an alternative.
If your VanMoof S3 or X3 has been updated beyond firmware v1.7.6, there's still a way to regain Offroad Mode. A specialized third-party service offers professional firmware modification or downgrade for Series 3 bikes.
