VanMoof's premium fifth-generation city bike. Halo Ring interface, integrated hi-vis lights, a quiet 68 Nm front hub motor and an automatic electronic shifter — the flagship that defined VanMoof 2.0.
Six things that make the S5 and A5 feel unmistakably like a flagship VanMoof.
Two LED rings in the handlebars replace a traditional display. Glanceable battery, speed and mode feedback — the signature S5 look.
Your phone unlocks the bike as you approach, lets you ride off, then relocks when you walk away. Fewer steps, fewer distractions.
Front and rear lights that punch harder and are built straight into the frame. No extra clamps, no cables to hide, no lights to forget.
A 3-speed automatic hub shifts for you as you change pace. On the S5 it's fully electronic — smooth at speed, silent at lights.
Kick Lock, Apple Find My, alarm, rider recognition and tamper-proof hardware — all built in, all designed to make the bike unappealing to steal.
An automatic gearbox that shifts based on your speed and cadence. No levers, no buttons. The bike handles the gear changes so you focus on riding.
Moofment is the community-built iOS app for VanMoof riders. Pair your S5 or A5 to track rides, monitor battery health, log maintenance and tap into the rider community — all on your phone, all private by default.

The Halo Ring is the LED interface built into the S5 handlebars. It replaces a traditional display with two glowing rings that show battery level, speed, assist level and connectivity status through animations. It's the signature look of the fifth generation and a big reason the S5 still feels fresh years after launch.
Yes. Moofment is compatible with the S5 and A5 over Bluetooth for ride tracking, diagnostics, battery health and community features. How deeply it can control the bike depends on the firmware on your bike — for live S5 support status, check the latest Moofment release notes.
In EU trim, the S5 is pedal-assisted up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph) — the standard European e-bike limit. US models top out at 32 km/h (20 mph). A dedicated Boost button gives a quick burst of extra power on top of the regular assist when you really need it (pulling away, climbing, merging).
VanMoof quotes 60–150 km depending on mode and conditions. Real-world daily commuting with mixed assist is usually in the 45–70 km range. The 487 Wh battery is integrated into the frame and takes around 6.5 hours to charge fully on the standard charger.
They share the same motor, battery and electronics. The S5 is the classic high frame with 27.5-inch wheels, best for taller riders (around 165–210 cm). The A5 is the all-frame with 24-inch wheels, step-through friendly, about 1 kg lighter, and suits riders 155–200 cm. Pick the frame, not the tech — they're the same bike underneath.
