VANMOOF LEGACY

Didn't VanMoof go bankrupt?

Short answer: yes — and no. The company you knew as VanMoof 1.0 went bankrupt in July 2023. A new VanMoof 2.0, backed by McLaren Applied, picked up the pieces. Here's the plain-language version of what happened, what it means for warranties, and a tour of every legacy model.

VanMoof 1.0

2009 – 2023

Founded in Amsterdam by Taco & Ties Carlier. Built the iconic VanMoof brand and revolutionized urban e-bikes.

VanMoof 2.0

2023 – Present

Acquired by McLaren Applied (Lavoie). Continuing the legacy with new leadership and the S6.

Ordered before bankruptcy?

All pending deliveries are tied to the old business. Bankruptcy administrators will list all creditors, including customers.

Refund options: if you paid with a credit card (Amex), PayPal, or certain Klarna flows, you may be able to initiate a chargeback claim to recover your money.

Existing warranties

Important: the warranty promises made by VanMoof 1.0 were unfortunately dissolved along with the old management.

In practical terms: existing warranties from before July 2023 will not be honored by VanMoof 2.0. Some riders have had success with Revotronics or community repair services — see the Bike Hub.
